How To Make an Epic Color Scheme For Your Esports Team

Esports teams need a color scheme using up to 3 colors. A bright color, a one dark color, and usually a neutral color like gray are usually the kinds of colors used. In order to make an epic color scheme you'll need colors that go well together to show similarity with your team. In this article you will learn how different hues and shades work together to make an epic color scheme.

Hue: the attribute of a color that it is named after like the primary colors red, or yellow. Each hue used should mean something. Every hue has a personality as well. Also know that in different countries and cultures colors represent different things. Blue can represent trust, and strength. Yellow can mark happiness or danger. Red can mean passion. The secondary colors can be a different set of meanings. Green can represent nature, or intellect. Orange can mean excitement and freedom. Purple leads to royalty, and mystery. These hues will complement each other best when the shades are distinct from each other.

In order for each color to stand out from each other some need colors must be darker than others. The variety in lightness and darkness in colors is called contrast. Lighter colors are more playful and darker colors are more mature. A dark red like maroon is more serious than a bright pink. Yes, pink is a shade of red its not a different hue. The contrast in color will make it easier to read names and numbers on a jersey or different parts of a logo from each other. Lets look at some real examples to see how they come together.

The Dallas Fuel, the Overwatch League team uses two shades of blue and gray in their scheme; A brighter blue that is exciting and a darker blue that is more calm and trustworthy. The Florida Mayhem from the same league uses a neon blue and pink for their colors. The pink and blue calls back to the Miami vice style and are very lighthearted because they are so bright. Black is used a lot for Mayhem's jerseys and supporting graphics to give a contrasting back drop for the colors to show against.

Now its your turn to make an epic color scheme! First think of what kind of personality does your team want to be. Then pick 1-3 hues that match with those traits. I recommend visiting sites like coolors.co or other color generators to find good colors.  Next adjust the brightness of the colors. Now test them out to see how they look against each other. Try writing some text in one color on top of another color to see if its legible. If you can't read it try adjusting a color to make it contrast better or adding black or white to the color scheme. Once you are happy with your color scheme, Hooray! You now have an epic color scheme for your Esports team.
